New Intercom Installed at Hi Point Apts

LOS ANGELES- NEWS FLASH- A new intercom has been installed at 1522 Hi Point St 90035 after years of complaints (since 2014) by Black residents and tenants about the non-working system. No word yet on was it the owner or the city who replaced it. Repairs were witnessed this morning between 9 am and 12 noon. Rather than wired throughout the building as the old system, the current system seems to be phone app based. No word on how the system will work because tenants have not been notified how to use the system. Anyone expecting deliveries today may not have known how to use the system, as various drivers were used to using the keypad system to make deliveries. We will update this story as soon as we find out is the intercom system for all tenants equally or is it just for the mix of illegal home sharing tenants. The previous intercom system—not available to all tenants on a full and equal basis—was removed today without advance notice to any tenants; the keypad entry was also removed without notice. The keypad entry was primarily used by delivery persons (Amazon, FedEx, UPS, DHL, USPS, etc.) (and friends and guests) who don’t normally use a cell phone to communicate. (As of June 5, no word on how to use the system. 7:56 am.) No word on complaint of Black tenants for tandem parking stall, such stalls held by at least three white tenants. The owner and city housing department are unresponsive. This is an example of the type of housing discrimination alleged against Power Property Management Inc. (Editor: The address in question is a rent controlled building at 1522 Hi Point St 90035, Los Angeles, California. There is a dispute. The intercom system installed is a SmartPhoneApp based system. The owner has not supplied the smart phones and internet for tenants to use the system. The previous intercom and keypad did not require tenants to use internet and smartphone to access it. What if a tenant does not have a smart phone or internet? Complaints have been filed with the city rent stabilization departments as well as the State Civil Rights Department.)

But tenants not yet told how to use it

LOS ANGELES. A piece of broken curb was reported to the city code enforcement around July 2022. (code violation complaint 825343). After nine months of complaints from a Black tenant, the curb was finally repaired this month. Code enforcement had refused to cite the property owner. But it was not repaired to satisfy Blacks. It was only repaired after it was reported that white Jewish students in the area might be injured. In front of 1522 Hi Point St 90035.

A new building is up at 1511 Hi Point Street. Rents for similar buildings in the area start at $3500 for one person for a one bedroom…. No low income tenants allowed.
